Ahhh, Fluffernutter sandwiches. You’re correct, that was the name of the sandwich made with “Marshmallow Fluff” and peanut butter. I’m guessing, but it looks like it was something “regional” way back when. I grew up in PA/NJ and these were a delicacy that most kids only had now and then. Maybe a jar of Fluff bought by Mom once or twice a year if we were lucky. Looking back, I’m guessing they knew what it was made of and didn’t want us eating a bunch of it. When I moved to Houston at 17, there were no jars of Fluff to be found down here. Now they have it, but don’t know if it’s popular or not. I’ve never seen anyone eat it down here.
It was actually really good, even though I don’t like marshmallows too much. You’re right about it destroying the bread if it was too cool. And by too cool I mean room temperature if not summertime. Microwaves weren’t around, we had to put it in the sink floating in hot water to soften it up. But that would take time, and what kid wants to wait 20 minutes for a sandwich.
